As a sensitive infrastructure, a fault in a telecom cable can lead to lengthy and costly maintenance operations as well as the unavailability of the transmission network.

MONITORING MECHANICAL FATIGUE
The FEBUS G1-R (DTS - Brillouin) provides strain information.
When a cable is deployed at sea, it may cross crevasses and faults. Significant and repetitive movements can endanger the integrity of the cable. Subjected to mechanical fatigue, cable deterioration risks increase.
The FEBUS G1-R and its integrated software, FEBUS FOGrid Suite, allow for quick response in the event of a failure risk by providing real-time, distributed, continuous, and highly precise localized data thanks to measurements taken every 10 centimeters.
DETECTION OF OPTICAL LOSSES
FEBUS Optics' FOGrid solution relies on our patented DFOS (Distributed Fiber Optic Sensing) technology and the use of one or more optical fibers already deployed in the telecommunications cables.
Our distributed fiber optic sensing devices perform measurements in real-time, continuously, and at every point of the cable to provide:
- acoustic data, FEBUS A1 (DAS - Distributed Acoustic Sensing)
- temperature information, FEBUS T1 (DTS - Distributed Temperature Sensing)
- strain data, FEBUS G1 (DTSS - Distributed Temperature and Strain Sensing)
Any suspicious decrease of the optical signal is detected in real-time and precisely located on the GPS map generated by our FOGrid Suite software solution. This way, a cable integrity check can be decided as the optical fiber loss may indicate a telecom cable failure.

DETECTING INTRUSIONS
Offshore or onshore, third-party intrusions can damage a telecom cable: bites by marine wildlife, hooking by an excavator or a ship's anchor.
FOGrid enables real-time detection of any intrusion near a cable thanks to continuous vibration measurements with our FEBUS A1 (DAS - Distributed Acoustic Sensing).
Our FOGrid Suite software solution provides event alerting with accurate geolocation on a map.
